Dynamic Interaction Skills Workshop
We believe that destructive behavior is learned, and that changes in behavior can be learned. We continue to believe that we all have the same basic needs - to be loved, to be accepted, to be treated with respect - and that those of us who try to get those needs met by using anger, intimidation, and violence don’t know a better way.
We are certain that using anger, intimidation, and violence are the methods least likely to get these needs met. We have many years of experience in teaching anger management and helping individuals eliminate violent behavior. We invite you to take from our experience what fits for you. Use what works for you, make changes to fit your own needs. Above all, take care of yourself. We know that our program works. But we want you to know that our program is training. This means that to use our material to improve your ability to express your anger in constructive and healthful ways, it is essential that you practice the concepts and techniques we teach.
We compare our training to the training of someone who is learning to play tennis. To learn to play well, it is helpful to get an experienced instructor to show you the correct way to serve and return the ball, and to teach you the rules of the game. Or you may read an instruction book on how to play tennis. But your instructor or your book does not a tennis player make. You are the one who does this - practicing the techniques hundreds of times before you can get on the court and play a successful game.
